Maestro Maven - Hip-Hop/Rap
Top 12 West Coast Tracks...
East, West, South... it's all a distinct sound in Hip-Hop and Rap, which simply marks the musical form as a sophisticated one. It doesn't take a trained ear to pick up on the differences and West Coast hip-hop sound has a little more bounce - it's BBQ music, beach vibes... but sure, gangbanger anthems as well. N.W.A. was the first West Coast act to go mainstream and get listened to by white boys, but Snoop Dogg is when white chicks jumped on the bandwagon too. I can't say that I'm anything more than a dilettante in any particular musical genre, so these are my picks for the best West Coast music. I'm sure there are big MCs and groups that will be missing. Maybe I'll run into them some day. In most ways these tracks are old school west coast.
