Toxic Game Culture
Several decades ago, two early game theorists, Huizinga and Caillois, wrote about games as a "magic circle". The magic circle was a hermetic space that was to be resistant to penetration from political ideology that pervades everyday life. Over time, the Left has attempted to dissolve the magic circle and hijack games in order to construct a hegemonic formation based on collectivist socialist values. I feel the need to talk about how this hijacking has actually led to insidious passive-aggressive forms of bullying, censorship that threatens free speech and free expression, and virtue-signalling by developers that not only undermine their products, but also their users.
